Our Boatload of Dreams.....

Welcome to Our Place Called Simplicity.

We invite you into our lives with one goal in mind: that you would be encouraged to live simply and truly love one another.

Married for 33 years, we are the parents of many. Eleven {so far} children. Eight of whom are adopted. We also have four sons and a daughter that we are parents of in Uganda as well. They were raised on the streets and had no parents until we "adopted" them 3+ years ago. So we really have sixteen children total {with more on the way}.

After 7+ weeks in Uganda, Emma {18} and I recently returned to the United States with our newest addition - a baby girl named Ruby Grace. Dw and Emma were leading a missions team in June 2011 where they had the privilege of meeting Ruby - a tiny 11 month old gem weighing only 6 lbs.

Our oldest daughter Abigail and her husband finally{!} allowed us the privilege of being Mimi and Jaja by bringing us our very first grand baby {from Uganda}...making us now, officially, a multi-generational adoptive family. Proof that adoption is a very, very good thing!

We've had the privilege of adopting our treasures from all over the world, some dubbed "special needs" we are convinced that the only TRUE special need a child has is to have a family.

Our peers are empty nesters, but we are certain that given this option to any orphan - "old mom and dad" or "no mom and dad", all would still vote for the old ones. So here we are - the old ones....doing it again....

If you are need of encouragement or wonder if God is able to move your mountain, please head over to the sidebar where Special Posts are listed. Start at Our Wild Adventure Part 1. You will be reminded of Almighty God's deep love for the orphan and how He will move mountains on their behalf....we call Him the Miracle-Working, Mountain-Moving, Awe-Inspiring, Gasp-Giving God!! Yippee Jesus!!

I am humbled beyond words and ever so grateful that the Lord is fulfilling a promise He gave me way back in 1982..."making the barren woman to be at home - the joyful mother of children" (Psalms 113:9). How I praise His name!!

Life at Our Home

Blogs serve all kinds of purposes including just letting your friends in on what's going on at the house...

The big kids finally crawled out of bed.....I just love having them home so it was hard to keep waiting for them to wake. I was tempted to let the little ones "play" outside their door, but decided I should just let them sleep.....cranky little kids is one thing, but cranky big ones? They finally drug their weary bee-hinds out to check their FaceBo**k......what we do without the hourly checks??
Notice Abi and Elizabeth in background...

So throughout the morning I found Tyler reading A Place Called Simplicity and saying: "I actually love reading the comments from the people mom, I like reading them more than reading your posts (thanks son)." So just in case you wonder if he reads them, apparently he does.

Then he laughed and said, "Some people think we are close as kids and having lots of fun, of course they can't see you holding a gun at us and making us smile." Whatever dude, whatever.

Someone in one comment (a few posts ago) asked if Tyler and Sarah are registered anywhere....he said, "Tell them at Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's and Outdoor Gun." (See what depl*yments do to our brave men and women!)

I found Abigail and Elizabeth sitting on the counter where Abi was letting Elizabeth "do her make-up". Abigail said she will never speak to me again if I post these.....not to worry....she'll forgive me eventually.
Applying foundation...Following it up with some lipstick.....
Now rub your lips like this....

Tyler also said to tell everyone that he and Emma appear close in pictures because he is trying to keep the young gentlmen who have discovered his beautiful sister at an arms length. He is kidding, he and Emma have always been really close. Not sure why, but they both have similiar temperaments and have lots of fun laughing together.

All the big kids have gone off to do something so I decided to clean out cupboards. (I know, son's getting married in 2 days, but seriously those cupboards were driving me crazy!) Well Elizabeth, Isaiah and Liberty were coloring on the floor. I went to our room for just a minute and Liberty came to tell me that Elijah had emptied the can of spray oil on the floor. She was right. The full can is now empty and we are sliding around the room.

I grabbed a cloth to try to clean it up. I turned, while cleaning it up and here was what I now found our little boy-wonder doing....
Yes, that would be my two year old dynamo emptying a gallon jug of water on the floor. I am going to have to put my roller skates on to keep up with that boy!! He reminds me of Abi and Liberty - my two "curious and into everything other kids". It's not that the others didn't get into stuff, but Abi and Liberty gave me a run for my money...and now Elijah is following in his big sis's oily footsteps. Abi emptied a gallon of oil on my floor once-upon-a-time....

Trust your day at your home has been lots of fun too.....

I love it when siblings truly love spending time together. The closeness of your family is so evident in the candid pictures.

I agree with Tyler, Emma is beautiful. It couldn't hurt having guys be a bit "concerned" that her protective older brother is watching out for her:-)

Wow, Elijah really keeps you on your toes!! He will definitely keep you young:-)

Funny about the oil! Kevin was always dropping and breaking the syrup bottle on the floor! Used to drive me crazy!!!!

Life looks awesome in the Saunders home! Tell Tyler we loving watching. It's better than Jon and Kate plus 8!

Oh Linny, I'm cracking up here. That incident with the oil...reminds me of when I slept in once. Our oldest son and oldest daughter got into toothpaste. They put it in every cereal box and anything that looked like food. Then the little stinkers hid their clothes in the back of the clothes closet. That is just too funny about the oil and then the water. I can just see everyone slip sliding away.

I loved reading what everyone is doing today. Can't wait to see the wedding pictures. Hugs and love

I love hearing about Tyler because I have always been a 'patriotic nerd' (according to my friends). I am so thankful that men like Tyler are keeping our country safe. And now my own son is also heading into the milit*ry. Tyler..if you're reading this...THANK YOU for serving this country! Best wishes and congratulations to you and Sarah. May God bless your marriage abundantly.

Never, EVER go into another room.... my longest days are when I clean a room (usually starts with our library), and then move on to the living room, and then return to the library to find that my youngest girls have brought their toys downstairs from their room, and from the playroom in the back of the house. Their reason? Well the bedroom and playroom are too messy to play in there.... and I only have 4 kids. I don't know how you do it.... I hope you have a fantastic week, I'm glad everyone is home for such a joyous occasion.

Ha ha. . . I have one who gives ME a run for my money too. He is 5 now and FINALLY starting to mess less. But I tell you, his overwhelming appreciation for sights, sounds and wonders. . .(oh and his weird need to TOUCH and feel EVERYTHING) have always caused me to see things from a new perspective. I remember him at Elijah's age, dancing in circles on the patio on a beautiful fall day. . . he was looking up at the trees and waving his arms with this HUGE smile on his face. When I looked up, I saw he was copying the waving branches. Leaves danced all around him. He looked at me and said MAMA DANCE! Ain't that what life and love are all about? Now, my practical solutions. . . lol a water gun with window cleaner and a cleaning rag for washing the patio doors. He loves to fold washcloths. Sponges on feet make washing skates. . . etc etc. I have to get creative to get him working his energy for GOOD and not messes. love you!

Linny~ Having ALL your kiddos home really adds a lot to your blogging so I think that you shouldn't ever let them leave. What's wrong with all of them just staying there anyway? They can just enjoy the good life livin' with Mama. Besides...it seems you could use some extra help with the curious, I'll-stop-at-nothing-to-find-out-what-this-does, little one.

Tyler~ why haven't YOU commented on your lovely mother's blog yet? Surely you have something to say...or does she censor you? Probably so. She's pretty controlling that way. Have you heard where she stores your father? You need to look into that. Don't leave before it's resolved, k? :)

Saunders Family...you are the bestest ever! Love ya!!

Yikes, oil on the floor. Wow you have your hands full, good thing all the "big " kids were home to help clean up! That's ok big families have the best stories,I once found my Bella smothered in vaseline, completely covered. I think it was one of the only times I was totally speechless.

So cute! It IS funny when its not my kitchen floor! Sorry! I'm really glad to hear we are not the only messin and gomin house!
I know you don't know me but please send up a prayer...I am going to walk through a house tomorrow that we put an offer on last fall (we low balled and it wasn't accepted, understandably, but we had to try!!) It was rented out and now it is back on the market (actually it was earlier this year and financing fell through on that bid and now its for sale again.) This house sings to us (I'm not kidding, I heard a happy song I cannot explain while in this house!) It is just out of our comfort zone as far as a mortgage payment goes so we have really been hesitent BUT, it has 5 bedrooms, a heated garage bay (for my clay studio with a 220 plug for the kiln already there! The kitchen is amazing considering it is 100 years old. Even has a cute dutch door! Ok, whew, we are really torn and not getting a full blown sign to go forward... We are torn between stepping out in faith and this not really being the house for us. THANKS!

Can't wait to see pictures of the wedding! I really wish we lived closer. I would love for my son Isaac to meet Tyler he would be an awesome role model for him. He is 12 and intends to go into the military. He is very analytical, studies military history and can tell you about weapons from the civil war to the present. He is also a tenderhearted friend to everyone! He needs a mentor who loves the Lord and serves our country the way Tyler does!
Have a fun filled weekend!!!!
Sheri
