Our Boatload of Dreams.....

Welcome to A Place Called Simplicity.

We invite you into our lives with one goal in mind: that you would be encouraged to live simply and truly love one another.

As many of you may or may not know, on January 14, 2009 in the early morning hours, our home burst into flames. Dw was out of town and I was home alone with our six youngest kids who were still sleeping. The devastation and necessary healing process of our home burning down is something that we could not have imagined until it happened to us. For the full story of God's miraculous protection, please head over to "Special Posts" on the sidebar....

When the fire broke out I had been home less than 4 weeks, having just returned from Africa where I was able to miraculously bring home treasure #9 - Elizabeth and treasure #10 Elijah (who were 1 and 2 years old at the time.)

If you are need of encouragement or wonder if God is able to move your mountain, please head over to the sidebar where Special Posts are listed. Start at Our Wild Adventure Part 1. You will be reminded of Almighty God's deep love for the orphan and how He will move mountains on their behalf....we call Him the Miracle-Working, Mountain-Moving, Awe-Inspiring, Gasp-Giving God!! Yippee Jesus!!

I am humbled beyond words and ever so thankful that the Lord is fulfilling a promise He gave me way back in 1982..."making the barren woman to be at home - the joyful mother of children" (Psalms 113:9). How I praise His name!!

Memorial Box Monday - MOST Exciting News THIS Parent Could Hear From Our Grown Kids

This is a Memorial Box Monday story to beat all stories for this mama. And if you can't hear the Yippee Jesus screaming coming thru your computer then open your windows cause you'll probably hear me all the way from over here in Colorado!!!

About two weeks ago Abi texted me. She wanted to know where Dw and I were. She and Ryan wanted to talk to us together. I could hardly wait until we finished up meeting with the cabinet lady and get in the car together.

Hurrying out to the car, I had a good idea I knew what they were going to tell us. There have been tiny hints, tweets, and not-so-normal questions. As my cell dialed their number I had such anticipation I could hardly stand it.

Without any hesitation Abi burst the news - they are expecting their FIRST baby - a little one they are ADOPTING FROM AFRICA!!!! When they went to Africa with the team in June they fell in love with ALL the little ones at the same orphanage where Elizabeth and Elijah lived.....and the rest is history.

Yes, I'm going to a GRANDMA and I am beside myself with joy!! I cannot wait to hear my first grandbaby say the words, next to Mama, that are most precious to my heart - Grandma!!

Abi and Ryan are not choosing adoption as "second choice". Adoption is their first choice - and that is the reason for this Memorial Box Monday post. My prayer for a zillion years has been that God would break my kids hearts for the things that break His.

This begins a second generational heart for the orphan which has moved to adoption. This is just the start for our family!!! I am seriously weepy and giddy all at the same time. Humbled that our Miracle-working, Mountain-moving, Awe-inspiring, Gasp-giving God would answer our whispered-in-the-night-hours-prayers.....How faithful He is!! We will probably put a picture of our little grandbaby in our Memorial Box representing this answer to our longtime prayers.....

Abi announced the news on her Photography Blog late last night.....and they have also begun an adoption blog....

Celebrate with us this most Yippee Jesus news - We are going to be a Grandma and Grandpa!!

Linny,
I prayed so hard that they would find a baby when they were in Africa and I just kept waiting to hear from you that they had found one and you so they didn't. I honestly hadn't thought about it since then but let me tell you that this is music to my ears.

I am soooo excited for them and for you guys. What a blessing from God.

I am also soooooo excited that you have good news to put on your blog.

Congratulations Abi, Ryan, Linny and DW! I love it when God hears the cries of a mother's heart!!!

I just posted my very first ever, Memorial Box Monday about how God brought our oldest son to us through adoption. You can go read about it on my blog at http://www.welcometothedumplinghouse.blogspot.com

It's so uplifting to remember these moments especially as we embark upon our 4th adoption and things already are getting stuck. God has a plan, He knows what He wants to accomplish, and we just have to let Him do it.

I can't wait to see pictures of that new grandbaby of yours!

WOW! Awesome news! Congratulations to the whole family!

Oh congratulations!!! I really do need a waterproof laptop to read your posts. I held it together till the part about adoption being their first choice.

The legacy you and Dw have created is beautifully shown in your precious Abi and Ryan. May you have a boatload of grandbabies to ride along with your boatload of kids. (I'm not seeing you guys as a "Grandma" and "Grandpa" though. You need to be called something more fun.)

What a happy day.

Smiling,
Kathie from Georgia

P.S. We're still praying for sweet Jubilee! Now there's one more reason she needs to come home soon--she's going to be an aunt!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am so thankful that adoption was God's first choice, and overjoyed when other's follow that lead!!! Love you all!

CarrieT said...

A huge congrats to you all!! Wonderful news!! Also as someone else said, I am praying often for Jubilee to come home asap.

Just one teeny little comment though, which you do not have to post. After going through the intense pain of infertility (IF)and then God blessing us through adoption, I never think that it was our 2nd choice in ANY way except chronologically!! I truly believe God allows (not causes because it is so painful, but allows) IF to open the eyes of some couples to the beauty and blessing of adoption and to open our eyes to the needs of orphans and foster children around the world. I applaud those who "get this" without going through IF, such as your daughter and SIL. You should be proud, as you are!

But God still used our journey of IF to teach us many things and to teach us to lean on Him and I don't think it was a mistake for us to go on that journey. AND even though we tried to get pregnant first, my children are not my 2nd choice because God miraculously changed our hearts!! NOW we are GLAD we did not get pregnant because if we had we would not have THESE children!
:-) But I have GREAT compassion for couples going through the pain of IF, even WHILE praying that more couples will consider adoption.

I really enjoy your blog and have been stretched in my faith many times by what you said so I pray you don't take this as a criticism! Just a comment.

Congratulation to all of you- parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles!
Linn- I have to say that what really struck me with this post was your excitement. You've written about the lack of enthusiasm (or worse) from family members. I have to say that I have never heard or read of a grandparent this excited for an adopted grandchild- so sad. But what a blessing you will be for this child and for Abi and Ryan as they go through the process!
Congratulations!!!
