Well, this morning, Sarah, a bloggy friend wrote asking if I was aware of adoption tax credit situation.
Here's the information she shared:
In 2013 the tax credit will be a maximum of $6,000 for parents adopting children with special needs. There will be no adoption tax credit available for all other adoptive parents beginning in tax year 2013.
Could you ask your readers to sign the petition at
at http://www.change.org/petitions/make-adoption-costs-fully-refundable-in-the-2012-2013-tax-years
Additionally, there is a bill in Congress trying to get passed and if it goes through there will be a PERMANENT tax credit put in place.
There are some key politicians who need to receive letters/emails supporting the adoption tax credit. The following politicians are sponsors of this Adoption Bill, if you reside in one of these states it is extremely important that you send some type of communication to them:
Richard Burr [R-NC]
Robert Casey [D-PA]
Thad Cochran [R-MS]
Kirsten Gillibrand [D-NY]
Kay Hutchison [R-TX]
Tim Johnson [D-SD]
Amy Klobuchar [D-MN]
Pat Roberts [R-KS]
John Thune [R-SD]
In addition to these Finance Committee members:
Sen. Max Baucus [D-MT]
Sen. Orrin Hatch [R-UT]
Sen. Jeff Bingaman [D-NM]
Sen. Richard Burr [R-NC]
Sen. Maria Cantwell [D-WA]
Sen. Benjamin Cardin [D-MD]
Sen. Thomas Carper [D-DE]
Sen. Thomas Coburn [R-OK]
Sen. Kent Conrad [D-ND]
Sen. John Cornyn [R-TX]
Please consider taking a moment to sign the petition linked above. There are currently 25,000+ signatures on it...with a whole bunch more needed! Signing the petition takes about a minute, at the most. A small amount of time to lend a hand to the orphan crisis.
If you live in one of the states listed above, please would you call our representative and show your support? Every call does make a difference.
Please consider Facebooking, blogging and emailing friends and family asking them to join in. Feel free to link to this post. It doesn't matter if you have adopted, are adopting or hope to adopt....your help is still needed!
There are 163,000,000 reasons why signing the petition and praying for favor is a must!
Thank you sweet friends! And on behalf of the 163,000,000 orphans whose families will find them, thank you as well!
so glad you wrote this post!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this Linny. I had no idea the government is trying to abolish the adoption tax credit! I will certainly be sharing this link on my facebook as well as my blog (if I can figure out how to link it up, haha!)
ReplyDeleteDone! I also forwarded it to my husband because it seems he has Kent Conrad on speed dial for so many reasons these days!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amy P.
Thanks for the info Linny! I'm in NC and Richard Burr's office was really helpful when my adoption in Guatemala got stalled, so I'll be happy to write him!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this - we've been wondering where this stands for 2012 & 2013. I'll be sure to spread the message as quickly as I can!
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing, I signed it and will be calling the reps here in NC.
ReplyDeleteNot only did I sign this, we contacted our Rep (we are in PA) because we are one of those families- we adopted #1, used ATC to adopt #2, used ATC to adopt #3 and 4, and now are adopting #5 from China, our 12th child by using our tax refund. We are so thankful for this, it's certainly not all we pay out to adopt, but it has opened the doors to allow us to adopt more than once. Couldn't imagine life without them:)God's blessing to cover the cost and bring these precious kiddos HOME.
ReplyDeleteWe need this blessing to continue.
Thank you for posting this.
ReplyDeleteFor those who are interested in getting in contact with their representative to advocate for the renewal of the tax credit, there is a website that connects people directly with the contact info of their Senator and other representatives, based on zip code. They even have a sample advocacy eMail, although I wrote my own. I wrote to our 3 reps. All three representatives got back to me - 2 of them with "real" thoughtfully written eMails, the other with a ready-made response that I was not so impressed with. Here is a link to the Adoption Credit Advocacy Kit that was put together by the National Council for Adoption: https://www.adoptioncouncil.org/images/stories/NCFA_Adoption_Tax_Credit_Advocacy_Kit.pdf
Blessings,
Katie
Thanks for posting this! I signed and will contact congressmen as well as we will need this credit in 2013! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe are one of those families that has used the refund to be able to adopt again not once, but twice.
ReplyDeleteWe received the tax refund after the adoption of our two daughters in 2010 and used that money to adopt our 9 year old daughter in 2011. We are returning to Ethiopia once more to adopt our baby boy and will be funding this adoption with the tax refund from our 2011 adoption.
This credit/refund matters and has made the difference for 2 more children to come home to our family.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for informing us!! I have put this on my blogs as well! Also, your family has been an inspiration to us! We are just beginning our journey to Haiti! It's exciting and daunting! We would appreciate all your prayers!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
